Availability

The availability of health care might be the
most problematic issue facing our current system.

Availability means that if you need a particular type of treatment, there is a definite way of getting that care. "Where there's a will, there's a way" so to speak...

You've seen the tragic depictions of people in third-world countries who are hopelessly deprived of medical care. Insufficient care can result from a variety of factors:

1. Health care is not considered a priority. Money is invested elsewhere.
2. There's simply not enough money to make it available, except to the very rich.
3. Need-based - Other people need it more.

This issue is hinges on defining our RIGHT to health care.
(See "Rights")

It also deals with making health care available to groups
of people that might be overlooked or ignored.
(See "Race & Discrimination")

You'll read about these topics (and more!)
further on in the Presentation...
Ciao!
